#628, 26.6' x 8.5' Research Vessel
Lineage:
This 26' design kit for a research vessel was derived from essentially the same hull (#295) built for the US EPA in 2008. This updated version, #628 was created for the University of Rhode Island and is currently under construction at Lyman Morse Fabrication in Lewiston, ME. The bottom shape is a distinct departure from our norm as a result of prior work with sampling/research operators to lower wake and generally enhance handling & stability at very low sampling speeds. With that in mind, we tucked the run of the inner chine considerably inboard over its aft 20% and also gave the keel run considerable rise as it runs aft. The result is both a smaller transom section, albeit with "normal" chine beam, which eases the stern wave, and increases initial stability.
